Enjoying music anywhere demands a product that's ready for anything. Boom Movement, a sub brand of Polk Audio, has that on lockdown with their series of durable, Bluetooth speakers. Boom Movement recently added to their collection with another innovative, Bluetooth speaker: the Boom Bit. Featuring a spring steel clip to securely fasten to any apparel, the Bit truly is the "world's first wearable speaker."

OBJECTIVE

The world’s first wearable bluetooth speaker

As lead designer, my goal was to showcase how the Boom Bit is a high-quality product that, unlike most small Bluetooth speakers, doesn’t sacrifice sound quality or versatility. I first created the Boom Bit brand standards and design guideline. Once the design system was established, I implemented it across all touchpoints: packaging, retail displays, website design, email blasts, and social media. I also assisted on lifestyle photoshoots and provided art direction to ensure each image portrayed an important product feature.

PACKAGING

Bold, product-focused, and cost effective

One of the main challenges while creating the packaging was maintaining a straight-forward, clean design. Due to Canadian legal restrictions, all copy needed equal French and English translations. Instead of written words, I decided to use photography and iconography to tell the product story and to avoid cluttering the design.

For the packaging structure, I chose a transparent blister pack design, as it clearly showed off every angle of the Boom Bit without exceeding our budget. From plastic bottles to faux glass vials, hours of research was done to find the best packaging materials possible. However, the blister pack still proved to be the most cost-effective and best solution for our product.
